Robert Pal is one of the few forum retreat facilitators for YPO and EO Forums in North America who has served as both a trained Forum Moderator and an EO chapter president who built his retreat methodology from the ground up based on how Forums function best. He facilitates one-day and two-day Self-Leadership retreats across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, going deeper than a speaker or standard offsite to work on the inner patterns that shape leadership, decision-making, relationships, pressure, and the personal cost of success.

"

High-performing entrepreneurs already know how to run a business. This retreat is about what happens inside them while they're doing it.

Robert Pal Forum Retreat Facilitator, Executive Coach & Author

You've mastered the external game.
The internal one is harder.

EO and YPO Forum members are among the most capable executives in the world. They've built companies, led teams, managed capital, navigated markets, and solved problems most people will never face.

But even the most accomplished entrepreneurs quietly carry something that company results don't fully reflect: the internal pressure of leadership. Reactivity in high-stakes moments. A critical inner voice that never quite quiets. Decisions clouded by urgency or fear. The growing distance between professional success and personal peace.

None of that is weakness. It's the cost of operating at a high level without the tools to manage what's happening inside. This retreat is designed specifically for that gap.

"

Robert has a unique gift in his ability to easily relate to people and create the type of environment of trust where true openness occurs. Our Forum flourished under his leadership. I am currently the moderator of my YPO Forum and am incorporating many of the lessons learned under Robert's leadership.

Self-leadership is not taught;
it is experienced through Robert's coaching

The retreat unfolds in two parts that run together throughout the day:

Part One

The Coaching

Every member answers one question at the start of the day: "By the end of this year, what do you want to be different in your life?" This becomes their individual goal. Robert coaches members one at a time on their real goal, no role play or hypotheticals, while the rest of the Forum watches and listens.

At key moments, Robert hands the floor to the Forum. Peers who share years of history can ask the exact question that unlocks what someone has been circling around for months. That intimacy is part of the method, and it's why this retreat can only happen inside a Forum.

Each member leaves with a concrete plan and a specific commitment made in front of the exact people who will ask them about it at next month's meeting.

Part Two

The Self-Leadership Framework

This is Robert's own process, the culmination of years of coaching work, watching what actually helped his entrepreneurial clients move through pressure, conflict, and growth. It's also the subject of his soon-to-be-published parable, The Calm Inside the Storm.

Throughout the retreat, members keep returning to one revealing question: "What is happening inside me while I am dealing with this?" That question is where the deeper work begins and where each of the three stages comes to life.

Throughout the day, these two parts move together: coaching surfaces what's real, and the framework gives it a name and a path forward.

Coaching

In addition to business strategy and leadership, Robert coaches entrepreneurs privately on what most business conversations never reach — the anxiety behind a big decision, the inner critic or imposter syndrome that surfaces before a high-stakes moment, the gap between outward success and inner experience. His practice runs on referral and operates with a waiting list.

The Process & the Book

Over years of this work, a framework emerged — one Robert has refined through thousands of hours of coaching and facilitation. He calls it Self-Leadership: the ability to notice, understand, and consciously direct your inner experience rather than be driven by it. That framework is the foundation of his forthcoming book, The Calm Inside the Storm: The Journey from Inner Critic to Self-Leadership, and the workbook every retreat member receives.

Forum Facilitation

Robert brings direct experience as a trained Forum Moderator and former President of EO Toronto. Unlike general leadership facilitators brought in to run a Forum off-site, he has lived this culture from the inside. This retreat was not adapted from a broader program — it was built from the ground up, shaped by years of coaching entrepreneurs and by a deep understanding of how Forums actually work.

The Entrepreneur

Robert has been an entrepreneur since he was young — starting at flea markets, then building one of Canada's leading fashion accessory companies. He knows what it's like to carry that weight largely alone. Then he found EO. For the first time, he was in a room full of people who actually got it — who understood the pressure, the isolation, and the real cost of building something.

Everything builds toward one foundation:
greater awareness and better response.

  • Tools to recognise and move through anxiety, overwhelm, and reactivity — so you can access your clearest thinking when it matters most
  • Calmer, clearer responses in high-stakes moments — at work and at home
  • Better decisions under pressure, with less reactivity
  • A healthier relationship with the Inner Critic and imposter syndrome
  • Stronger communication with partners, family, and teams
  • A commitment made in front of the Forum — and the accountability that comes with it

Every member leaves with the accompanying workbook to The Calm Inside the Storm: The Journey from Inner Critic to Self-Leadershipnot as a keepsake, but as a tool. Because the patterns that showed up in the room will show up again: in the next negotiation, the next team conflict, the next chapter.

Available as a one-day
or two-day retreat.

Both formats are fully facilitated, individually focused, and shaped around your Forum's members. Robert travels to facilitate retreats across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Option One

One Day

A complete, high-impact experience. Every member is coached on their personal goal. The full Self-Leadership framework is introduced. Everyone leaves with clarity, practical tools, and a concrete commitment.

Option Two

Two Days

Everything in the one-day format, with a deeper and more experiential dive into Self-Leadership. More coaching time per member. More space for personal and relationship themes. And enough time for the framework to shift from concept to lived experience.

Both Formats Include

Every retreat begins before the day starts
and continues after it ends.

Before the Retreat

A private coaching session with Robert.

Before the retreat day, Robert meets individually with each member. He learns their goals, patterns, and what they most want to shift. This means the coaching on retreat day is not starting from zero — it is already calibrated to each person in the room.

After the Retreat

A post-retreat integration session for each member.

What surfaces in a retreat needs space to land. Each member receives a private session with Robert after the retreat to integrate what they experienced, anchor their commitment, and apply the framework to what is immediately in front of them.

In their own words.

Common questions from Forum
moderators and retreat chairs.

What is Self-Leadership and why does it matter for entrepreneurs?

Self-Leadership is the ability to notice, understand, and consciously direct your own inner experience rather than being driven by it. For entrepreneurs, this means recognizing the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that shape decisions under pressure, and learning to respond with calm, clarity, and choice rather than automatic reaction.

Does this address imposter syndrome and the inner critic?

Yes, directly. Navigating the inner critic and imposter syndrome is one of Robert's core coaching specialties — precisely because these experiences are so intensely common among high-performing entrepreneurs. This retreat addresses both using practical, research-backed tools that help members recognize how these patterns operate, understand the protective function they serve, and learn to lead them rather than be driven by them.

Is one day enough, or is two days recommended?

Both formats deliver real value. The one-day retreat provides a focused, high-impact introduction to Self-Leadership with practical tools and clear commitments. The two-day retreat allows for greater depth, more individual coaching, more time on personal and relationship themes, stronger Forum bonding, and detailed implementation planning.

Will this feel like therapy? Our members are skeptical of that kind of work.

It won't. Robert's approach is direct, practical, grounded, and businesslike without being cold or clinical. He speaks the language of entrepreneurs because he is one. The retreat focuses on patterns that affect performance, leadership, relationships, and decision-making. Robert's work is grounded in evidence-based modalities including Internal Family Systems, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Solution-Focused Coaching.

Is this retreat specifically designed for EO and YPO Forums?

This retreat was designed specifically for Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) and Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO) Forums. It is not a general leadership retreat adapted for entrepreneurs. The methodology, facilitation approach, and group dynamics are built around how Forums actually work: trust, confidentiality, shared history, and vulnerability.

What should a YPO or EO Forum look for in a retreat facilitator?

The most important factor is whether the facilitator has genuine Forum experience, not just group facilitation experience. A Forum retreat works because of trust, confidentiality, and shared history. A facilitator who understands that dynamic from the inside will protect it. Look for someone who has moderated a Forum, served in a chapter leadership role, and built a methodology specifically for how Forums work not adapted a corporate program for entrepreneurs. Robert Pal meets each of these criteria: a trained Forum Moderator and former President of EO Toronto who built his Self-Leadership retreat specifically for how YPO and EO Forums work.

How is this retreat different from a standard Forum offsite?

Most Forum offsites focus on an external topic — a speaker, a theme, a location. This retreat turns the focus inward. Every member is coached individually on a real personal goal, in front of the Forum, using the trust and shared history that already exists in the room. The Self-Leadership framework gives members tools they keep using long after the retreat ends. It is not a one-day event — it begins with a private pre-retreat session for every member and continues with a post-retreat integration session.
